CAPT Patrick M. Thompson currently serves as the Director of Infrastructure for the United Stated Coast Guard C5I Service Center leading all Information Technology, hardware, networks, and cloud technologies.
CAPT Thompson has over 24 years of experience as a leader and IT professional with extensive background in Acquisitions, Infrastructure & Operations and Cyber Strategies. Previously he led a $200M effort to upgrade all desktop compute and network infrastructure capabilities across the Coast Guard 60,000 user base. As the Product Manager for Coast Guard Unified Capabilities, he has led critical telecommunication modernization and mobility initiatives providing ubiquitous access to DOD Microsoft 365 Cloud Suite. As the Operations Officer of Coast Guard Cyber Command, Captain Thompson has been responsible for protecting enterprise information systems and providing a secure communication and sensor platform for Coast Guard Maritime Operations. While at USCYBER Command, he oversaw Security Operations for sixty-four combatant command and agency network centers and has deep expertise in cyber operations aligning with both Coast Guard and DoD Cyber Strategies.
Awards include the 2012 Copernicus Award and 2010 IT Leadership Awards from Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), the 9-11 Medal, four CG Meritorious Service Medals, three CG Commendation Medals, one Joint and two CG Achievement Medals and eleven Meritorious Team Commendations.
CAPT Thompson graduated with high honors from the U. S. Coast Guard Academy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. He received a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, and a Master of Science in Engineering Management from Northeastern University. He is certified as CISSP, ISSMP and CCSP by ISC2 (International Information System Security Certification Consortium). He currently serves as the president on an ISC2 International Advisory Board and president of the ISC2 Northern Virginia Chapter which was recognized a top chapter in North America in 2021.
