Dr. Walbert is a Computational Social Scientist whose research is at the intersection of agent based modeling, network analysis, and empirical data. He has led core delivery on a variety of geospatial tools for commercial and public clients, including geospatial analysis and visualization projects at large pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Walbert’s academic research focuses on complex social phenomena including: the dynamics of social insurance programs, food accessibility, and voting and election behavior, and illicit black markets. He has a passion for using and developing open source tools to enable repeatable and shareable social science research. His professional work has taken him to a variety of clients facing differing issues in different domains, but all having the same need to understand data and do so in a rigorous and repeatable way. He has grown and managed a team of data analytics professionals, and has been the author and creator of proprietary R packages used for analysis at some of the largest and most complex organizations in the world. He has developed & taught data science courses for internal and client-facing audiences, including courses in R Programming and Network Analysis. Dr. Walbert holds a BS in Economics from the University of West Georgia, an MS in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University, and a PhD in Computational Social Science from George Mason University.
