Edward (Ed) McLarney

Digital Transformation Lead for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at NASA

Ed McLarney is Lead for NASA’s Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning digital transformation thrust. He also leads Langley Research Center’s Data Science Team, focused on applying data science to emerging customer / partner uses.

Prior to NASA, Mr. McLarney served for 20 years as an Army Engineer and Operations Research & Systems Analysis officer.  After earning a BS in electrical engineering at the United States Military Academy, Ed was commissioned as an Engineer second lieutenant in the Army.  As a junior officer, Ed was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington; Shemya Island, Alaska, and Anchorage, Alaska – along the way leading soldiers, to include commanding a 145-soldier, $18M combat construction company.  Next, Ed earned his MS in operations research and systems analysis at the Air Force Institute of Technology, where he developed a passion for modeling & simulation.  He acted as a catalyst for Joint and Army modeling, simulation, technical prototyping, and innovation while stationed in Kansas, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Iraq, to include time with US Joint Forces Command and Multinational Forces, Iraq. Ed’s hobbies include songwriting, hiking, and reading science fiction. He resides in Hampton with his wife, Saundra and their three children.
