Fact vs Fiction: Getting your Community to Move Past Fear and Embrace AI

Thu. March 18, 2021 @ 11:30 ET

Featured Guest Speaker: Dan Hoffman, City Manager, Winchester, VA

All too often public opinion regarding science and technology is informed by fictional TV shows and not by reality. Combine this with a historically low trust in government compared to past generations and the ability of public administrators to implement new technologies appears hindered. Although AI, machine learning and other data-fueled tools promise to help make government more effective and efficient, engaging with the community on these investments is more complicated than ever. This talk will explore how technology evangelists, in the public and private sector, can better engage with stakeholders and the community. Using the lessons learned from the past decade of “smart city” initiatives, we will sketch out a roadmap to making AI more understandable and approachable to policymakers.

Agenda:

  • 11:30-12:30pm: Featured Presentation
  • 12:30-1:00pm: Your Q&A and interaction
